HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hutchinson City Council did approve the increase in fees for the Salt City Splash during Tuesday’s agenda session.
Fees will increase from $1.75 to $2 for children ages 3-7, from $3.50 to $4 for kids ages 8-17 and from $4.75 to $5.25 for adults ages 18-61. A new rate of $4 for seniors age 62 and older would be created. Season passes would go from $25 to $30 for children 3-7, from $50 to $60 for kids 8-17 and from $60 to $70 for adults 18-61. A new season pass for seniors 62 and older would cost $60. Director of Parks Justin Combs told the Council that the increase was necessary. The rate increases, averaging about 15 percent, are expected to generate an additional $15,388 in revenue, based on last summer’s attendance. Combs said that they are making improvements to the pool, although right now they are more directed at equipment rather than amenities for the public.
Tony Finlay, director of the Hutchinson Recreation Commission, which operates the Salt City Splash, said there will be scholarships for swimming lessons and discount cards to reduce the cost of admission about 50 percent for children from low income families.
