Missouri man convicted of multiple burglary counts here in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Missouri man accused of 19 local burglaries here in Hutchinson has been found guilty as charged.

Joseph Paul Jones Jr. is now guilty on all counts involving the crimes which occurred back in the late night hours of May 13 and the early morning hours of May 14, of last year. The jury agreed with the state that he broke into the local businesses by prying open doors or breaking the glass windows with a crow bar. Jones is also accused of cutting the telephone lines at several businesses before making entry.

The state was able to show that video obtained from two places. Papa Murphy’s Pizza and a local Kwik shop showed him in the video. They also found a glove behind one of the businesses that apparently contained his DNA. When he was arrested in Wichita, police there seized a pair a tennis shoes. one of the shoes matched a shoe print found at one of the crime scenes here in Hutchinson right down to the wear in the tread.

With him being convicted, sentencing is set for Feb. 27. Judge Trish Rose set a special setting in the case because of the number of charges and any motions that might be filed in the case.

We had been reporting that he was charged with 45 counts, when it fact it was 39 for which he was convicted meaning that some charges had been dropped.

How his conviction for similar convictions in the Springfield, Mo. area is unknown. Plus he also faces charges in both Sedgwick and Lyon counties.

Hutch man enters plea in sexual exploitation case

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old man charged with a single count of sexual exploitation of a child entered a “no contest” plea to that charge Friday morning in front of Judge Tim Chambers.

Derek Hendrickson is now guilty of possessing a visual depiction of a child under the age of 18, shown engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The crime occurred between Feb. 3 and March 14, 2014, here in Hutchinson. They apparently seized two desk tops and one laptop from his home which the state says contained the images and video depictions of children.

Police often monitor child porn exchange sites and discovered that Hendrickson may have downloaded images from a site being monitored. That led to a search warrant being served on his home and the computers being seized. That was on March 14, of last year.

Judge Chambers set sentencing for March 6. Both sides are expected to recommend a non-prison sanction.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Reno County woman made a court appearance Friday on a charge of unlawful sexual relations with an inmate at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

Marla Criqui is charged in the case for the alleged conduct which actually occurred some years back. According to the criminal complaint filed back in December, she’s accused of having the sexual relations with a 30-year-old inmate at the local prison who is serving time for a murder conviction out of Sedgwick County. According to the complaint information, Criqui was working for a contractor for the prison when the alleged encounter occurred.

The state alleges the crime occurred between June 11, 2012 and June 15, 2012. The charge is a level five person felony with a maximum sentence of over 11 years in prison.

She is expected back in court on Feb. 4, for a status hearing.

The inmate has been moved to another facility in Kansas.
