Great Bend man no show in court, bond now $70,000
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 38-year-old Great Bend man jailed last week here in Reno County for allegedly making a drug sale in Haven apparently posted a $40,000 bond on Wednesday and was supposed to show in court Thursday morning for the three cases that has filed.
Deputy District Attorney Tom Stanton had requested the hearing be continued one day to give him time to file the charges against Eduardo Nunez. He failed to show in court and now has a $70,000 bond.
The charges were expected to include racketeering for the cases that involve the distribution of drugs.
The latest involves him being caught with a red and white can and inside was a baggie with a crystal-like substance which tested positive for methamphetamine. It weighed about 31 grams. A large amount of cash was also found inside the console of the vehicle Nunez was driving. In this case, he was arrested while at a Kwik Shop in Haven.
It was about a month ago that he was arrested here in Reno County on drug charges and an outstanding warrant after a traffic stop.
With him failing to show in court, it will depend on how quickly he’s apprehended as to when he’ll make another court appearance.
Woman involved in South Hutch standoff scheduled for sentencing Friday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The woman arrested back on July 23, 2013 in South Hutchinson in an apparent attempted armed robbery situation is scheduled for sentencing Friday after she earlier entered pleas to all the charges against her.
Tina Brown entered “guilty” pleas to attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, criminal threat, auto burglary and interference with a law enforcement officer.
The case started just after 1 a.m. that morning with the defendant getting into a vehicle that didn’t belong to her at a residence on Detroit Street in South Hutch. She then went to the door of the residence and started beating on the door with a stick. Eventually, the victim came to the door and Brown demanded his keys claiming she wanted to steal his vehicle, but he refused. She threatened him saying she had a 9 mm handgun. The victim and the defendant apparently scuffled and eventually police were called. Brown ended up in a shed behind the residence where she held police at bay for nearly four hours. She finally gave up and was taken into custody.
Although she claimed to have a gun, officials never found one.
The state is expected to recommend maximum consecutive sentencing, however they won’t oppose placing Brown on Community Corrections.
Hutch man expected in court in sexual exploitation case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old man facing a charge of sexual exploitation of a child is scheduled for court Friday where he may enter a plea.
Derek Hendrickson of Hutchinson is accused of possessing a visual depiction of a child under the age of 18, shown engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The crime occurred between Feb. 3 and March 14, 2014, here in Hutchinson.
Police often monitor child porn exchange sites and discovered that Hendrickson may have downloaded images from a site being monitored. That led to a search warrant being served on his home and his computer on March 14, of last year. They then say they found the image or images and that led to his arrest.
The hearing on a possible plea is scheduled in front of Judge Tim Chambers.
State declines prosecution in drug sale case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two people from Wichita who were arrested over the weekend by the Kansas Highway Patrol for allegedly distributing drugs got a break Thursday when the state apparently decided against filing charges at least not yet.
Jeremiah Collins and Jennifer Whitmer are both arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia. Collins was also facing charges of no tax stamp, false impersonation and felony interference with law enforcement. They did make court appearances where they were told of the charges. However, we got word Thursday afternoon from a court official that the state is declining prosecution in the case, at least temporarily. This happens sometimes when they feel the case needs some additional investigation.
We’ll let you know if the state ever does file charges.
