HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council is expected to take action on the next step in Hutchinson City Councilplacing a sales tax question on the ballot for the April spring election. The tax would be used to fund more than $29 million worth of improvements to the Sports Arena.

If approved by voters, the sales tax in the city would increase by 0.35 percent. If the agenda items are approved by the council, it would establish a resolution allowing the city to begin the process of bringing the proposal to the voters and writing language that would be used on the ballot.

Also, the board will take action on the proposed Mall Redevelopment District. A yes vote would establish a taxing district at the mall that would fund improvements to the recently purchased property.

Finally, the council will seek approval of a new agreement with the Hutchinson Rec Commission to operate Fun Valley, Hobart Detter Field and other athletic facilities that belong to the city. A trial agreement was signed between the two parties late last summer.

Tuesday’s meeting of the Hutchinson City Council begins at 9 a.m. at the city offices located on East Sherman.
