HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Fire units responded Thursday morning to the 2500 block of East 43rd for a vehicle fire which turned out to be a fifth wheel camper. When they arrived, fire units found smoke and flames coming from the front of the camper.
The fire was controlled in about 10 minutes with firefighters on scene for an hour. Preliminary damage is estimated at $25,000. Heavy damage was sustained in the bedroom, with heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the camper.
The cause of the fire appears to be electrical in the front slide-out area. There was a temporary resident of the camper who was not there at the time of the fire, so no one was injured.
The fire occurred just before 9 a.m.
