Suspect in local robbery formally charged
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The suspect arrested in association with the robbery in front of Great Clips Haircut Salon at 1515 E. 17th has been formally charges by the state.
22-year-old Tyler Joe Mossor appeared via video from the Reno County Jail where he was read the formal complaint charging him with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault, both using a deadly weapon, a handgun.
In court, he was also told of the possible penalties which could mean around 20 years in prison on the first count alone. Mossor had stated in a past hearing that he’s from Ohio and was staying with a friend when the robbery occurred.
According to Police, two female employees had just left the store back on Nov. 20 when one was robbed of a money bag and her purse according to the complaint.
With the charges filed, the case against Mossor will move to a waiver-status docket on January 6.
Suspect in rape and kidnapping case gets early Christmas present
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 35-year-old Montgomery County man paroled back in April and arrested here on charges of aggravated kidnapping and rape received an early Christmas present when those charges were dropped by the state. That came on the condition that Stephen Joe Eastham serve time in prison for a 2011 case where he was convicted of conspiracy to make false writing.
Eastham had been accused of holding a Hutchinson woman against her will then forcing her into sex. This reportedly occurred at a home in the 600 block of North Jefferson back on May 3. But he has denied from the beginning that those incidents occurred.
Eastham had been picked up in Oklahoma on the Kansas warrant in this case, waived extradition there and was brought back to Hutchinson.
He had been listed as an absconder from parole for a Montgomery County case involving drugs.
With good time and also time spent in jail on this case, he should serve considerably less then the 11-month sentence.
Hutch man bound over for trial in bizarre disturbance case
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 27-year-old man accused of causing a disturbance by barking or growling at customers at a local Dillon’s store was bound over for trial Wednesday after a preliminary hearing.
An employee reportedly advised Johnny Fenton III of criminal trespass and asked him to leave the store, but he refused and police had to be called. The officer said when he made contact, Fenton would not respond and was mumbling to himself. He did ask the officer to arrest him. As they were searching him, they found a straw with meth or meth residue inside.
He was arrested for criminal trespass, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia for the incident which occurred back in August.
Fenton has other more serious charges pending in front of Judge Trish Rose. He’s charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell or distribute, possession of Alprazolam with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, criminal possession of a firearm, felony theft of a motor vehicle, felony criminal damage to property for damage to that same vehicle, and misdemeanor theft. All of those alleged crimes go back to Nov. 1, 2013.
The latest case will also be transferred to the court of Judge Rose where he’ll be arraigned on Jan. 5.
