Fire Units and Police were on seen Wednesday afternoon on a structure fire at 433 West Sherman. It appears it may have started in a closet, but that has yet to be determined. Apparently, a lot of clothing had caught fire creating a lot of smoke.
Police Sgt. Eric Buller had smelled smoke and drove in that area and determined the smell coming from the home and also noticed the door knob was hot to the touch. Fire units were then called in, this just after 2 p-m.
There had been some concern that three kids might have been in the home at the time the fire started, but a search by fireman showed that wasn’t the case. Police detectives have been assisting in the investigation because of the belief that the fire started in the closet and that is kind of unusual. We were told that a dog from Salina was also brought in to assist in the investigation.
There have also been reports of some domestic situations occurring in the past at the home.
No damage estimate was available Wednesday evening.
