HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After the Kansas Supreme Court recently denied that the state review its appeal of Judge Tim Chamber’s decision to suppress some statements made in the case against Billy Craig Jr., the case is scheduled for motions hearing Monday.
Craig is accused of murder involving the death of Jennifer Heckel and the defense wanted some statements made during taped interviews with law enforcement over the killing of Heckel suppressed, some prior to him even being charged with murder, saying they didn’t believe the statements were made voluntarily. Some of those statements were suppressed by the judge.
Craig, along with Charles Christopher Logsdon and possibly Matthew Barnes, allegedly went to the home of Heckel, killed her while her young son was in the next room listening. Barnes was never charged with being involved with the murder, but is in prison on other matters.
Logsdon was convicted in the murder case and was sentenced to 73 years in prison.
The murder of Heckel occurred on June 14, 2011. She was killed in a case of mistaken identity.
