Jurgens

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A former bonding agent found “guilty” on all but three counts against him is scheduled for sentencing on Friday

Dwight Jurgens was found guilty by a Reno County jury of two counts of aggravated human trafficking, two counts of attempting to commit aggravated human trafficking and two alternate counts of rape. He was found not guilty of two counts of aggravated trafficking and aggravated criminal sodomy. The human trafficking and aggravated counts are charged due to his authority of controlling persons because of his work in a bonding business. He worked for TNT bonding at the time of his arrest.

He was convicted for bonding female prisoners from the Reno County Jail and then threatened to send them back to jail if they didn’t have sex with him. In at least one case, one of the victims was given drugs by Jurgens and then passed out, only to discover his on top of her.

Jurgens remains jailed on a bond of $150,000. The sentence Friday will be handed down by Judge Trish Rose.

Ex-convict arrested after drug raid at local apartment building

DeCarlos Colbert

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old parolee man made a first appearance Thursday morning on suspicion of being in possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, possession of marijuana, obstruction and no drug tax stamp.

DeCarlos Colbert was arrested after a search warrant was served on his apartment at 507 East 3rd. Drug Unit Detectives arrived around 9:00 p.m., Wednesday night and during the search say they found 12 individual bags each containing a crystal substance with a total weight of around 126 grams. Also located in a bedroom was an open box of sandwich bags and digital scale with residue. In the living room, they alleged that they found a grinder with a green vegetation which tested positive for marijuana.

While they were serving the search warrant, Colbert apparently drove up to the residence and as they tried to make contact with him, he struggled with them and then took off running, however, he was quickly captured.

In court Thursday morning, he requested a reduction of the $11,500 bond which was denied by Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen. He’ll be back in court next Wednesday or whenever the state files formal charges.

Colbert had been in prison for the sale of drugs from a case in Sedgwick County going back to 2008. He was paroled here in Hutchinson back in May of last year with the sentence in Sedgwick County case expiring in May of this year.
