HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County Sheriff Officials are looking for 26-year-old Scott Lee Lutz. He’s a white male with blond hair and blue eyes. He’s wanted for three felony warrants for failing to appear.
Lutz is believed to be in possession of a handgun and has commented that he won’t be taken alive. Lutz was involved in a chase about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon with law enforcement from the sheriff’s office, Hutchinson Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol. The chase reached speeds over 100 miles an hour and was called off after Lutz passed a school bus in northeast Reno County and there were significant concerns for public safety.
He was last scene around 108th and Halstead in extreme northeast Reno County. He was driving a white 2003 Chevy Silverado, Kansas tag 792FUJ.
Lutz has convictions here in Reno County for obstruction, unlawful manufacturing or attempting to manufacture meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of effedrine, robbery and criminal damage to property. He also has a conviction for felony flee and elude for a case out of McPherson County. He is listed as an absconder according the Kansas Department of Corrections website.
The robbery charge is for allegedly taking a 1994 Ford Explorer pickup and a cell phone by force. That occurred back on Dec. 25, 2011. The meth-related charges are from a bust on Jan. 2, 2012.
Lutz was originally from Wilson, Kan., and has convictions from Russell County going back to 2008.
Sherriff officials say he should be considered armed and dangerous. He may be accompanied by a second individual.
