HUTCHINSON, Kan. – HCC will be offering a non-credit Horsemanship course beginning on Oct. 21.

The course will be held each Tuesday (Oct. 28, Nov. 4, Nov. 11), from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Expo Building on the Kansas State Fairgrounds. The cost of the course is $200 (without a horse) or $150 (if you have a horse to use for the class). The class typically fills quickly and is open to the general public. To enroll, contact the Evening College office at 620-727-2791.

The course is separated into beginner and advanced riders. Karen Baehler, an instructor at HCC with years of horsemanship experience, instructs beginners, while Jim Keever, Sr., a master of horsemanship and showing with decades of experience, instructs advanced riders.

There is opportunity for one-on-one instruction with each class. Students will need to wear appropriate riding clothing, and riding boots are preferred. If not available, students should wear smooth-soled shoes. In addition, for the safety of rider and horse, the weight of the rider cannot exceed 20 percent of the body weight of the horse.

For questions regarding the equipment or other rider needs, please contact Karen Baehler at 620-665-3475 or by email at baehlerk@hutchcc.edu.
