HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The 43-year-old Hutchinson man jailed last week after police say he attempted to set fire to a south side residence is expected back in court Wednesday for the formal reading of charges.
Emmett Hutton IV is suspected of five counts of aggravated arson and one count of criminal damage to property.
According to reports, Hutton believed he saw a person in his car and ran inside the home in the 700 block of East Sherman to confront someone he thought was responsible. He is accused of damaging a water meter belonging to the city and throwing motor oil on the building and setting it on fire. The oil caught fire and charred a very small piece of the building’s siding.
There were two adults and three children inside the residence at the time, according to police.
His bond is set at $37,750, partly because of his past criminal history.
Hutton is no stranger to the law with prior convictions for burglaries, forgery and a number of theft convictions. Those crimes occurred in Reno and Sedgwick Counties. He has been in and out of prison over the past couple of years after his initial parole in May of 2010. His most recent parole was back on June 18.
