HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Although it is still behind its main rivals in the wind market here in the U.S., overall Siemens is the number one company for wind orders worldwide, according to figures released by new alternative energy, from Global Data.
Because of its strong offshore wind program, Siemens has secured 2,011 Megawatts of wind turbine contracts followed by Vestas at 1,281 and GE with 778. Of the 2,011 Megawatts secured by Siemens, 1,002 Megawatts of that comes from its European offshore projects where the German company accounted for 97 percent of the total orders. Siemens also has the highest order backlog of its competitors.
GE and Vestas lead the way in the U.S. in onshore wind production, with Siemens third.
