Hutch man arrested after theft and altercation with police
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 35-year-old Hutchinson man, well known to law enforcement, was in court Monday morning for a first appearance after he allegedly took items from a local store without paying. Police were then called and Sonny Bray then allegedly fought with law enforcement while being taken into custody and according to statements in court, bit one of the officers. This occurring at Tractor Supply at 1203 North Lorraine around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Charges include battery of a law enforcement officer, battery, theft, criminal damage and felony interference with law enforcement. Bray is also being held on a probation violation and failing to appear in court in another case. His bonds were left the same and currently stand at $20,000.
Bray is no stranger to the system with prior convictions and prison time for aggravated battery, criminal possession of a firearm, burglary, criminal damage, theft, criminal discharge of a weapon and aggravated weapons violations. Those crimes stretch of a period from 1997 to 2004.
He’ll be back in court on Wednesday.

Suspected drug dealer scheduled for hearing Tuesday
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old Hutchinson man busted back on February 25, after search warrant was served on his home is scheduled for court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
Bo Newberry is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, possession of marijuana and personal use drug paraphernalia.
The search warrant was executed on home on Sunset Drive and law enforcement say they found a Ziplock bag and a baby jar, both with suspected marijuana. They also allegedly found some pipes with burnt residue, a digital scale and new and used packaging materials and four hand guns with ammo inside. The suspected marijuana weighed around 23 grams according to the arrest sheet.
The marijuana with intent charge is a level four drug felony with a maximum sentence of two years, three months in prison with another half year for the firearm enhancement.
The hearing is scheduled in Position 1, however Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen is still off work because of a medical issue, so which judge will handle the preliminary hearing is unknown.
As with all hearings, they are subject to delays or continuances.
