Man injured after high-speed chase makes court appearance

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old Hutchinson man who was critically injured after he crashed his motorcycle during a high speed chase was in court Thursday where he was read formal charges against him.

23-year-old Antonio Cordero is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, felony flee and elude, possession of personal use drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol and no valid driver’s license.

He was on the motorcycle when police tried to stop him in the 400 block of North Adams for a traffic violation. He took off north on Adams and the chase continued to the Countryside Park area where Cordero crashed his bike. He was taken to the ICU unit of Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

The chase started around 4 a.m. On July 13, and lasted only a few minutes.

Cordero earlier had been sentenced to nearly three years in prison after he entered a plea to charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package, and two counts of no drug tax stamp. That case going back to December 29, 2011.

Hutchinson man waives preliminary hearing in pot distribution case

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 23-year-old Hutchinson man arrested back in February waived his preliminary hearing on marijuana distribution charges Wednesday.

Christopher Boyd is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to package drugs for sale, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and personal use drug paraphernalia.

Boyd was arrested after a drug related search was done on his home in the 600 block of West 7th. Law enforcement officers reported that they found a blue back pack that contained a glass jar with the suspected marijuana. Also found was $1,652 in cash, pipes with burnt residue and in his car was a digital scale with suspected marijuana.

He’s currently free on bond and with the waiver, he’ll be arraigned on the charges on October 6.

Dodge City man suspected of homicide formally charged in Reno County

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 26-year-old man who is wanted as a person of interest in a Dodge City homicide investigation appeared via-video in Reno County District Court where he was read the formal charges associated with a high speed chase here in the county.

Victor Gutierrez is now formally charged with criminal possession of a firearm, felony flee and elude and possession of cocaine.

He also has a hold out of Ford County in association with a homicide investigation in Dodge City. Police in that city responded to 613 W. Spruce around 5:15 p.m. Monday evening and found 30-year-old Natasha Pruitt dead of a gun shot wound.

Officers from both the Reno and Stafford County Sheriff’s Offices attempted to stop a Red Monte Carlo driven Gutierrez Monday night after Dodge City authorities asked law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for his vehicle. Sheriff officials say they attempted to make a stop on U.S. 50 at Whiteside Rd, but he reportedly accelerated and fled with officers in pursuit at speeds over 120 mph. At U.S. 50 and Mayfield Rd. They say at that point, he pulled over and was taken into custody without incident.

Dodge City detectives have been in Hutchinson this week working on the homicide case from their city.

Bond in the local case is at $20,000 and he’ll next appear in court on October 21.
