HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson continues to battle some of the blight that is a part of its housing stock.
The City Council approved setting a date of Nov. 4th for a public hearing on 21 properties that have been deemed unsafe. The city has been working to eliminate the large number of homes and structures that are too rundown to save, although some on the list will end up being renovated. City Building Official Trent Maxwell also said there are those who simply want to do nothing with the property and, in some cases, the landowner is deceased.
The council will hold a public hearing on the properties and then make a decision on what to do with them at a later date. That will likely mean the demolition of such structures.
