Ex-con arrested after altercation with a Hutch woman
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 24-year-old Hutchinson man was arrested around 7:40 p.m. Monday after he allegedly battered a woman so severely that she had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to reports, Justin T. Brown also attempted to contact the victim several times after being taken to jail.
Brown faces charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated battery and theft. He’s accused of punching the victim in the face with a closed fist, then kicking her when she was on the ground. She was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment of multiple injuries which included a broken arm.
He was also arrested on three warrants for other cases, including failing to appear for arraignment for domestic battery and no driver’s license, and a pretrial hearing for illegal consumption of liquor.
In court, he requested a reduction of the bond of $30,500 saying he needed to get out of jail because of having 11 kids that need him, that according to Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson. The Assistant D.A. of course was opposed to any reduction of bond because of the nature of the crimes he faces with the new arrest and the defendant’s past criminal history, which includes convictions for aggravated burglary, violation of a protective order, stalking, domestic battery and obstruction. All of the crimes occurring back in March and April of 2009.
His bond totals $33,000 which includes the bond for the new case and for the three warrants.

Hutchinson man charged with injuring infant child bound over for trial
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The preliminary hearing in a case involving an injured child concluded with the defendant being bound over for trial.
Alexis Silva is charged with reckless aggravated battery as well as two alternate counts of abuse of a child. The theory for the first abuse count includes shaking of the child. The second includes cruel or inhuman corporal punishment. Assuming the case gets all the way to a jury trial, the jury would have to decide which one of the three charges he’s guilty of, or find him not guilty of anything.
The injuries to the child, according to doctors, consisted of a fracture to the left leg of the 3 month old, but also other injuries that included bruising on both cheeks, fractured ribs and retinal hemorrhaging in one eye, which they say would indicate possible shaking of the child.
The crimes charged against Silva are alleged to have occurred sometime between August and October of last year.
With him being bound over for trial, arraignment will come next month.
