HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Three Hutchinson firemen were recognized for their bravery. During today’s Hutchinson City unnamed (25)Council meeting, three members of the Hutchinson Fire Department were recognized for their heroic acts during a major house fire that claimed one life.

It was June 18th that crews responded to the 900 block of East Sherman, and when they arrived, they found the small home fully involved. At that time Captain Gary Baudion, Driver Nick White and Firefighter Shilo Laibe were informed that there was a victim inside the home. Two of the men were able to rescue the victim by crawling on the floor and pulling her to safety just before the room of the home was engulfed in flames, while a third kept the fire in check.

Fire Chief Kim Forbes said even though the victim did eventually succumb to her injuries, the firemen deserved recognition for their heroic efforts to save her life.
