TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced Wednesday that three Hutchinson organizations have been awarded grants totaling $95,520 for victims’ service program.
The grants awarded will fund the following projects:
Horizons Mental Health Center will get $5,000 to coordinate and deliver a school-based sexual and physical abuse prevention program designed for elementary school children.
The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center gets $42,000 to operate a child exchange and visitation center. They will also receive another $37,000 to provide emergency shelter and support services victims of domestic and sexual violence.
Visions of Hope and Reno County CASA will receive $11,520 to provide certified volunteers to assess the immediate needs of Children in Need of Care and juvenile offenders whose case has come to the attention of the juvenile court due to alleged child abuse or neglect.
“The work of our victims service organizations throughout the state ensure that services are available to crime victims in their hour of need,” Schmidt said. “We are proud to support the work of these organizations through the victims services grant programs in our office.”
These grants were awarded from the State Crime Victims’ Assistance Fund for Child Abuse and Neglect, the State Child Exchange and Visitation Centers Fund and the Protection from Abuse Fund.
This year, the Attorney General’s Office awarded $2.375 million in grants to local and state crime victim assistance organizations.
