NEWTON, Kan. -A Hutchinson teenager is in critical condition and another has non-life-threatening injuries after their car was broadsided by a semitrailer in Harvey County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported the accident happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday evening on U.S. Highway 50 two miles north of Halstead.
The driver of a 2000 Pontiac Jade M. Pepper-Hachenberger, 18, passed several vehicles and attempted to make a U-turn. A semi hit the car while it was turning around.
Pepper-Hachenberger was flown to a Wichita hospital in critical condition.
Another passenger Irsa N. Alvarado, 17, was taken to a Newton hospital.
Syleesa Andrade,18, was uninjured.
The semi driver was not injured. No charges were reported.
