The program is designed to donate school supplies to needy children in the area. Children who might otherwise begin the school year without the necessary utensils to be successful in class receive donated items just in time for the first bell.

On Saturday, Aug. 9, Midwest Ford & Toyota Superstore lined the entrances of Wal-Mart with trucks. Listeners were encouraged to purchase school supplies from Wal-Mart and fill the beds of each truck. At the end of the day, two full pickup beds were filled with back-to-school supplies. Another $180 worth of cash donations were given to First Call for Help to buy more supplies.

Jim Strawn, owner of Fastlane Express Car Wash, donated 50 percent of the proceeds gathered Saturday to help the cause. The car wash gathered another $600 for underprivileged students.

First Call for Help would like to thank everyone who participated in the event and made it a successful day for local students.
