HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Certainly the gas explosions that rocked Hutchinson years ago left many with more awareness of what is around them and, for that matter, under them.
Next week, emergency responders from around the area will join with Enterprise Products Partners in an emergency response drill at its underground storage facility near Hutchinson.
The drill will simulate a release of natural gas liquids from the Enterprise terminal, however no product will actually be used during the exercise and there will be no risk to the community. A variety of personnel and equipment, including several fire engines, hazmat teams and environmental contractors will actually be mobilized to the scene.
After the drill, participants will hold a tabletop discussion to analyze their performance and look for opportunities where improvements can be made.
Enterprise conducts similar drills throughout the country each year to assess the company’s readiness in case of an emergency and coordinate with local emergency responders.
