HUTCHINSON, Kan. — HMS-7 teachers were more than “Happy” to invite students back to school.
This morning, Jo Higgins started clapping and dancing in front of the students shortly after they arrived on bus. The students didn’t know what was going on, but most of the teachers did. One by one, dozens of faculty and staff members joined Higgins in a choreographed flash dance with Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” blaring in the background.
“Last year, we surprised faculty with the kids, it was so much fun,” Higgins said. “By the end, everybody was clapping.”
Last year’s flash mob was such a hit, another staff member suggested Higgins should gather a group to welcome the kids this year. She gathered members of the staff who were afraid they wouldn’t know what to do. “Just watch me,” Higgins, also a dance teacher, said.
And they did. Led by Higgins’ clapping and dancing, the teachers put on a performance no student will forget.
“I’m the oldest teacher here, but the best dancer,” Higgins quipped.
