HAVEN, Kan. — Two men escaped serious injury after a rollover accident that involved alcohol early Sunday morning.
Sheriff deputies and Haven EMS were dispatched to the area of K-96 Highway and Arlington Road on the report of a one-vehicle rollover accident. They found a Toyota Matrix resting on its passenger side in a grassy area south of the highway.
The two male occupants of the vehicle were identified as 19-year-old Sandon Salm and 19-year-old Adam Buskirk, both of Haven.
After an investigation, it was determined Sandon had been driving the vehicle and had been traveling east on Arlington Rd., toward Haven. Sandon entered a curve in the road at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle which then left the roadway. The vehicle struck a stop sign and entered the ditch and overturned two or three times, coming to rest on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Sandon allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol before driving the vehicle and was arrested for driving under the influence. He and Buskirk were both treated at the scene. No airbags deployed on the vehicle as a result of the accident and both men were wearing their seat belts.
The accident was reported just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Salm is free on bond and should make a first appearance on the DUI charge at a future date.
