HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old Hutchinson man who called police back on April 9 to report a burglary at a neighbor’s home, only to be arrested for committing the burglary, entered pleas in the case Monday.
David Wiggs entered the pleas to burglary, misdemeanor theft and criminal damage to property while the other charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were dropped.
Police were called on the report of a burglary at a home in the 700 block of West 6th, around 10:45 a.m., and found a broken window to the basement of the home with the back door kicked in. They also found blood inside the residence and a boot print found on the back door. When they made contact with Wiggs, he had one of his hands in his pocket. At first, he refused to take it out, but when he did, it was clear that his hand had recently been cut. They also found blood inside his residence which is in the same neighborhood. Wiggs had taken off his boots, but when police saw the boots, they matched the boot print found at the burglary scene. The one boot also had some paint that had chipped off when it made contact with the door.
The only items taken from the residence were three packs of cigarettes, according to the complaint. They were allegedly found in Wiggs’s home along with some marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
With him entering the pleas, sentencing will be on September 12, in front of District Judge Trish Rose.
