HUTCHINSON, Kan. — He’s accustomed to winning prizes in the Sunflower North Building, but Larry Orme has never won anything quite like this.

“I thought I had a chance to win because every time I come into this building, I always win something. Although it’s usually just a door prize”

Larry Orme won $10,000. He joins the three sponsors who made the giveaway possible. From Left: Kirby Martin, Stone Creek Nursery; Larry Orme; Dean Hachenberger, DH Home Improvement; Jake Martin, Your Wireless World.

Orme won $10,000 with the Cash Cube from Your Wireless World, Stone Creek Nursery and DH Home Improvement. He said he never expected to actually win. In fact, if not for his daughter’s coaxing, Orme never would have registered at all. His entry was drawn at PiZaaco’s, 112 S. Main, in downtown Hutchinson.

“This is by far, by far, the biggest thing I’ve ever won,” Orme said. Orme isn’t exactly certain what he’ll do with the money, but he knows some of it will go to his daughter. After all, without her, he never would have registered.

Orme wasn’t the only winner. Ten winners won some denomination of cash as Eagle Communications gave away $20,000 in all. Craig Bailey of Hutchinson won $5,000 for second place and Kassandra Langlois of Hutchinson took home $2,500. Randy Good of Burrton cashed in on $1,500, while Gwen Walker of Inman earned a cool $500.

Five more $100 winners were named and include:

Joyce Conard – Hutchinson

Jeanette Miller – Hutchinson

Phyllis Schroeder – Hutchinson

Irene Vincent – Hutchinson

and Joan Kaufman – South Hutchinson.

Since April, listeners had the chance to sign up for the Cash Cube and become one of the 100 finalists. Eighty-seven arrived at the Kansas State Fairgrounds as 77 were eliminated one by one. “I kept thinking: surely my name will be next,” Orme said of the elimination process. “Then it finally got down to two. It’s exciting then.”

Orme’s name was the last one called. His ping pong ball was the last one drawn from the lottery machine housing all the entries.

Craig Bailey won $5,000 for second place. Kassandra Langlois won $2,500 for third place. Randy Good won $1,500 for fourth place. Gwen Walker won $500 for fifth place.
