HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The five-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a highway construction worker this week road-work-signagain brought to the forefront the dangers work crews face on highways.

The accident killed 22-year-old Dylan Snyder who was standing beside his work vehicle when he was hit in the multi-vehicle crash. “Motorists need to be aware that during the summer time we do most of our overlay and bridge work, so people need to be aware of workers in those zones,” KDOT Regional Spokesperson Martin Miller said. Miller says that work zones will always be marked and workers will be wearing bright clothing to bring awareness to their presence. Currently, there are three major highway projects under way in Reno County. They include the US-50 project from Hutchinson to Newton, the K-61 overlay from Arlington to the US-50/ K61 interchange near Pleasantview, and the K-16 bridge project between 4th and 11th Avenues in Hutchinson.

All three projects are expected to last through the summer.
