HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Two men arrested over the weekend made first appearances Monday on drug-related charges.
37-year-old Joey Spear of McPherson and 25-year-old Alex Stratton of Hutchinson were stopped by police around 3:20 a.m. Saturday morning and police say they discovered the two men were in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. They apparently were uncooperative with police leading to an additional charge of felony interference with law enforcement. The stop occurring at 1125 E. 4th. Both were also arrested for failing to appear in a traffic cases through Municipal Court.
Stratton is also listed as an absconder from Community Corrections for convictions of burglary, interference with law enforcement, making false writing, theft and criminal trespass. Those cases from 2012 and earlier this year.
Spear has served time in prison for domestic battery, drug-related charges, burglary and theft. Those convictions are in Reno, Harvey and McPherson counties.
Both men requested a lowering of the $9,000 bond, which in both cases, the state opposed. Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen denied the request because of their past involvement with law enforcement. Stratton has a total bond of $39,000 because of the other issues he has with corrections.
Both will be back in court on the new charges Wednesday.
