HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Just after 2 a.m., the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to structure fire at 51 Random Rd. When they arrived, they found heavy involvement of fire to the residence.
The fire took 20-minutes to control, with units remaining on scene for two hours.
The residence was occupied by 5 residents at the time with all escaping without injury. One fire fighter was transported by EMS to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for an environmental issue. The fire fighter was treated and released from the emergency room.
The investigation revealed improper disposal of fireworks as the cause of the fire. Damage was estimated at $60,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents. The garage suffered heavy damage with heat and smoke damage throughout the residence.
