HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Reno County Commission had a very light agenda Tuesday which included a technical change to a program that supports transportation department employees who may suffer emotional or personal difficulties.
The Employee Assistance Program is already in place but needed a technical change amounting to changing of the date on the agreement.
Commissioner Dan Deming questioned Renee Harris, Human Resource Director over how much it was costing the county for the first six sessions if an employee might take advantage of the program. Harris responded by stating that its covered as part of the bulk fee the county pays for the program. With that question answered, the commission approved the techinical change.
Also, County Counselor Joe O’Sullivan brought to the commission’s attention that a piece of land in South Hutchinson had been deeded to the county without them really knowing it. It came to O’Sullivan’s attention when a employee of the city of South Hutchinson was looking into who owned the property to get them to knock down weeds and mow grass in what is basically a vacant lot. This property located on west 6th just to the west of strip shopping center in South Hutch.
O’Sullivan says the woman who owned the property died last year in Arizona and there was a self help deed issued in that state giving the property to the county. Apparently that was the wish of the land owner before she died. However, the county doesn’t want the lot, so the commission agreed to deed the property back to the estate of this woman. O’Sullivan advised the commission that it would probably end up in a tax sale some years down the road.
