HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Hutchinson Regional Medical Center recently has announced the purchase of a Telemetry System from ScottCare Cardiovascular Solutions that is designed to assist in treatment of patients undergoing Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation at the hospital.

The system was purchased from the Cleveland, Ohio based company at a cost of approximately $70,000, and replaces a 20 year old ScottCare system.

Sara Gaut, Exercise Physiologist at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, said the patients will wear a small pocket size heart monitor around their neck during rehabilitation. A trio of electrical leads are attached to the patients’ clavicle/”collar bone,” along with the right and left ribs.

“During the one hour rehabilitation session, medical information on everything from heart rhythm to blood pressure levels is simultaneously transmitted to the hospital’s medical records department,” Gaut said.

“The new equipment will be beneficial in providing feedback on the patient’s tolerance to rigorous exercise and provide assurance and peace of mind to those that are making progress on their recovery from cardiovascular and pulmonary disease,” Gaut continued. “Also, the new system provides a paperless method to better monitor the patients and is a vast technological improvement from the system that is being replaced.”

Gaut said Hutchinson Regional Medical Center has purchased ten of the devices to coincide with the number of patients that participate in each of the rehabilitation sessions at the hospital at one time.

Kevin Miller, F.A.C.H.E., President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, said the cardiovascular and pulmonary patients deserve nothing but the best in state-of-the-art treatment and the ScottCare system will help to achieve that goal.

“Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System is on the leading edge in the treatment of cardiovascular and pulmonary disease,” Miller said “We are always on the lookout to find new ways to better treat our patients.”
