HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Another case of animal abuse from December led to a Hutchinson man being arrested in the case.
Juan Hernandez is accused of one count of cruelty to animals for hanging a baby pit bull, killing it back on December 17, 2013. According to police, a family member allegedly took money from him and he didn’t like that, so he allegedly killed their puppy to make a point that they shouldn’t take his money.
He was in court Thursday morning for the formal reading of the charge and told of the possible penalties which includes a jail sentence of 30-days to one year in the county jail and a fine of $500.00 to $1,000.00 if convicted. It has been filed as a felony case.
He is free on bond and the case will now move to a waiver-status docket in the near future.
