HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Reno County Undersheriff Sheldon Stewart is apparently leaving the sheriff’s office to take another position.
Sheriff Randy Henderson announced that effective July 14, Stewart will leave the office because of being offered and accepting a position as director of the Criminal Justice Program at Hutchinson Community College. “Sheldon’s leadership, mentoring and dedication to this agency will truly be missed.” said Sheriff Henderson.
In anticipation of filling this position and looking towards the future of this agency, Henderson says they look for an officer that is committed to being with this agency for many years and someone that may have the desire to be sheriff some day. The down side to that is with any change with a new sheriff, the undersheriff’s job is not always secure.
Effective July 12, Detective Shawn McHaley will take over the duties as undersheriff for the Reno County Sheriff’s Office.
