HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Funeral services for long time District Judge Richard Rome have been announced by the Elliott Mortuary. Rome Died Sunday at the age of 80.
Rome graduated from Hayden High School, Topeka, in 1952. He then graduated from BethanyCollege in Lindsborg and received his law degree from the University of Kansas School of Law.
He served for two years in the United States Army. He worked for many years in varyingcapacities as a judge, defense attorney, prosecutor, and assistant U.S. Attorney. He was a member ofthe Church of the Holy Cross and the Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight.
Parish rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday, and Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, both at the Church of the Holy Cross, celebrated by Father Joseph Eckberg. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka, Kan. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Relief Services, in care of Elliott Mortuary.
