HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Board of Trustees of Hutchinson Community College met master gardeners and heard an update on Emergency Medical Sciences at the June board meeting Thursday evening.
The board met members of the Master Gardener’s program from the Kansas State/Reno County Extension service. The Gardeners maintain a series of gardens surrounding the HCC pond and Crimson Courtyard as both a learning/service project and a beautification effort for the College. The Gardens were featured on the 2014 Hutchinson Garden Tour, a fundraising effort for the Master Gardener’s group.
They also heard a report from Cliff Moore, Emergency Medical Sciences (EMS) Program Coordinator, on the recently completed Field Operations held this week, at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. HCC Field Operations is an opportunity for paramedic students across Kansas to come together with local and out-of-state Agencies to do scenario-based training and networking. The equipment, facilities, budget, staff and students allow HCC to invite other paramedic students to come spend time with them in a scenario based environment that prepares them for field internship and their life as a paramedic. Current HCC paramedic students are joined by students from Barton CC, Coffeyville CC, and Cowley Colleges. The purpose for this event is to provide these paramedic students with an opportunity to practice their skills in real time with all the bells and whistles through multiple realistic medical and trauma scenarios.
The board also heard an update on the accreditation process with the Higher Learning Commission.
They also moved to approve that each individual staff/administrator salary increase for fiscal year 2014-2015 will be based on performance, market value, and scope of responsibility, with the average increase not to exceed 2.75 percent.
The next meeting of the board will be on Thursday, June 26.
