HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Sheriff’s Office Monday started receiving reports about an individual identifying himself as “Capt. Kevin Williams” of the Reno County Sheriff’s Office. The individual was advising people that he has a warrant for their arrest and that if they don’t come up with an amount of money, which they are to bring to him, that they will be arrested.
This is the same type of scam that occurred recently in neighboring counties.
Sheriff Randy Henderson says Reno County Sheriff’s Officer will ever request you pay them for a warrant or a ticket.
Those payments would go directly to the courts and not law enforcement officers.
Jail staff may take a cash bond while a person is in jail, and that goes directly to the court system. An offender registry clerk may collect a fee from an offender, however these will only be done in their offices.
If you receive such a call, do not pay any money. You can call the Reno Co Sheriff’s Office, Warrant Division, at 620-694-2735, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m, if you’re concerned you have a legitimate warrant for your arrest.
