MEDORA, Kan. — Hutchinson fire crews were sent to the 7300 block of North K-61 for a vehicle fire Saturday morning. When they arrived they found a goose-neck trailer which was loaded with 40 large square hay bales, with approximately 1/3 of the rear of the trailer on fire.
The fire was contained in 30-minutes. Fire units were on scene for two hours, with the assistance of Kansas Department of Transportation’s equipment, they were able to spread out the hay to complete extinguish.
Reno County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol shut down the southbound lanes of K-61 from 85th to 56th during this time.
Damage was estimated at $4,000, with 21-bales being destroyed. The cause of the fire was a bad wheel bearing on the trailer. No injuries were reported.
