HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of two Hutchinson residents arrested in February of last year on drug charges entered a “not guilty” plea Thursday afternoon.
21-year-old Derrick Taylor was arrested along with 43-year-old Marla Thomas. Both are charged with possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana, no drug tax stamp, and personal use drug paraphernalia. The marijuana charge against Taylor shows he has a prior conviction.
Reno County Drug Unit Detectives served a search warrant back on February 16, 2013 at a home in the 100 block of East B. They allegedly found a zip-lock bag of crack cocaine in the bedroom of the home. In the living room, they allegedly found a Black Flag bug spray can with a hidden compartment which they say contained two sandwich bags of powder cocaine. There was also a metal tin on the coffee table that contained marijuana.
Taylor allegedly attempted to run out the back door when drug unit officers made entry in the front.
Judge Trish Rose set a pretrial hearing for June 27. Taylor is free on bond.
Thomas was arraigned earlier this month and also entered “not guilty” pleas.
