HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of three people arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop entered a plea Friday to possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, while the other charge of having no tax stamp was dropped by the state.
33-year-old Robert Vigil aka Roberto Vigil admitted that on April 30, 2013, he was in possession of meth which was found next to him in the backseat of the vehicle he was a passenger. It weighed approximately 11-grams.
With the plea, there is some indication that both sides may recommend community corrections and the defense requested a reduction of bond, which the state opposed. Judge Tim Chambers worried that Vigil may go back to using drugs and refused to lower it.
He was riding in a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Jessica Whittier, when Reno County Sheriff Deputy Corey Graber stopped her vehicle for failing to signal at 2nd and Whiteside. She’s charged with two counts of distribution of drugs, criminal use of a weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia and no tax stamp. Her case is still pending a preliminary hearing.
Also charged was 35-year-old Dominic Vargas who is charged with possession of K-2 or synthetic marijuana. He also had 954-dollars on him at the time of his arrest. Officials also allegedly found several books with owe sheets on them.
Vargas also has another case where he’s charged with possession of meth, possession of marijuana, possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms and possession of drug paraphernalia. This case goes back to September of 2012.
And his most recent case includes a standoff with police. Charges include possession of marijuana with a prior conviction, felony flee and elude of a motor vehicle accident, failure to stop at an accident with damage over 1-thousand dollars, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while suspended. This resulted in a high speed chase through the city and the standoff. That was back on April 6. He remains jailed on a 165-thousand dollar bond.
Sentencing for Robert Vigil will be on June 27.
