A Hutchinson woman with a lengthy criminal history failed to convince Magistrate Judge Randy McEwen Wednesday that she should be granted an O-R or signature bond so she can attend out patient treatment and Peer to Peer mentoring.
That was the request from Kelly Driscoll with the Regional Public Defenders Office for Samantha Sprecher. She has two cases pending a preliminary hearing and Driscoll asked for the signature bond saying it would be better to have her attend the Peer to Peer group instead of sitting in jail. She says that Sprecher could be supervised by Court Services while her cases remain pending.
The state opposed any reduction in bond because of the current charges as well as her past criminal history. Assistant District Attorney Daniel Gilligan told the judge that he believes she is a danger to the community because of her on going drug addiction.
She’s charged in one case with possession of marijuana with a prior conviction and possession of personal use drug paraphernalia. This case going back to May 9. In the other case, she’s charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana with a prior conviction and possession of personal use drug paraphernalia. This case goes back to April 3, 2013.
Both cases are scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month and Judge McEwen denied the request for an O-R bond. Her bond currently sits at 15-thousand dollars.
