A former Hutchinson Community College woman’s basketball player who was originally charged with sexual exploitation of a child was sentenced Friday to 8-months on a reduced charge of committing a computer crime. Judge Trish Rose then granted 18-months probation for Jasmine Patterson which apparently will be unsupervised.

Patterson had been accused of downloading child pornography in her dorm room. The crime allegedly occurred on April 19, 2011.

The Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force reported spotting child pornography being downloaded from a file-sharing network which led to the investigation by Hutchinson Police. They executed a search warrant and she allegedly possessed sexually explicit photos of children under the age of 18.

But, District Attorney Keith Schroeder says that he agreed the reduced charge because of her possibly loosing scholarships and he wanted her to have a chance to start her life over.

The conditions of the probation is that she not violate the law and pay court cost and fines associated with the case. Judge Rose waived her having to pay 875-dollars in attorney fees because of her being in college which is apparently now in Texas.
