A 77-year-old Cheney man was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Saturday morning after his SUV was struck by a train.
It happened around 10:14 a-m, at the Union Pacific Rail Road crossing located North of K-61 on Fairview Rd.
The Dodge SUV was driven by Don Black who was traveling North on Fairview Rd. and drove in front of a Union Pacific train traveling 55-mph. The SUV was struck on the driver’s side rear, causing it to spin off of the tracks to the north. Black was transported by Reno County EMS to Hutchinson Regional Hospital, with moderate injuries.
Sheriff officials say accident did cause the 55 car inter-model train to disconnect, however the crew was not injured. The SUV was removed from the scene by wrecker services.
Sheriff Deputy Darron Morgan and Union Pacific Police are investigating the accident.
