One of three people arrested on July 17, 2013 after the Reno County Drug Unit served a search warrant on a home at 1016 North Van Buren filed a motion with the court on his own asking for a new attorney. Shane Kinast was granted a new attorney after he told Judge Tim Chambers that couldn’t work with Sam Kepfield. That decision made by the judge even though Kepfield argued that he thought they could still work together.
Shaun Lautz was assigned to the cases against Kinast, which means the case will be on hold while his new attorney is brought up to speed.
Kinast has a number of cases pending against him in District Court.
He had been arrested along with Dwayne Porting and Elisha Bozarth in the July case after officers allegedly found a bag on the couch of the home on Van Buren that contained a small zip-lock bag with a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also in the bag was more zip-lock bags and a digital scale.
Kinast also claimed he purchased a 22-caliber handgun which the state alleges was stolen from Butler County and found in his home. He claims he had no knowledge of the gun being stolen.
He’s also charged with interference with law enforcement in another case, and a case where he was busted for possession of methamphetamine.
No new dates for him to be back in court were set by the judge.
