The Reno County Commission on a 2-1 vote agreed to the criteria for some RCAT Riders to receive vouchers to ride the buses to get to and from medical appointments or treatment.
Julia Hulsey says they expect that only 100-200 people are expected to use vouchers per year. There will be no additional cost to the county for this service inside the city, and a minimal additional cost when they go into the county.
Medical providers include Prairie Star, Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, The Hutchinson Clinic, Horizon’s Mental Health Center and the Reno County Health Department. Financial eligibility for those receiving the vouchers would be determined by social or discharge workers, along with nursing personnel.
County Commission Chair James Schlickau again voted against the plan saying he believes its discriminatory against other groups including TECH clients.
County Treasure Jan Hull was before the county commission again Tuesday morning where she brought up the issue again of not sending reminders for those who pay part of their property taxes in May.
The commissioner having no real say in the matter did make some suggestions. Commission Chair James Schlickau suggested sending out postcards this year, then put a notice in the first notice next year advising them that they won’t get a reminder for the second half of their taxes next year. However he suggested that they could post that information on the county website and perhaps ask the media to assist in getting the information out.
Commissioner Dan Deming suggested that perhaps they could gather e-mail addresses when someone doesn’t pay their entire tax amount and then send e-mails to those individuals at virtually no cost. Hull seemed to like that idea and says they do plan to send out postcard reminders this year. Those taxes will become due on May 10.
